AIKIDO
Aikido
and self defence
Aikido is
a non-competitive art in which one learns to face many opponents simultaneously.
The techniques may be used effectively for self-defense in most circumstances,
even if an opponent is armed.
An attack
is easily calmed and the attacker controlled
- by making natural, circular movements which harmonise with the opponents
actions, drawing out the force in the direction of the attack.
- by the use
of kokyu-ryoku (the energy in breathing)
- through vulnerable points such as the wrists, shoulders, neck, knees
etc
These techniques
are safe to practice and cause minimal damage to the attacker. The aikido
principles of non-violence are equally effective in our daily lives -
the battle of existence. It should help us to evade conflicts and to improve
our relations, communication and negotiation skills.
